白璧德论中国道家思想

白璧德与中国传统文化的关系,主要体现在儒家思想方面。而在《卢梭与浪漫主义》一书中,白璧德也讨论了道家思想的问题,主要是在与西方浪漫主义传统的比较中展开进行的,一方面在自然主义、艺术创造上具有一致性,另一方面在情感倾向、人与自然的和谐上存在差异。白璧德对道家思想的阐释是缺乏深度的,反映了西方学者对中国文化的阐释往往是执一种工具性的立场。

Babbitt＇s View on Chinese Taoism

Relationship between Babbitt and Chinese traditional culture was mainly reflected in Confucianism.Meanwhile,Babbitt also addressed the issue of Taoism in the book ＂Rousseau and romanticism＂,which in comparison with the traditional Western romanticism.On one hand,Taoism and romanticism have consistency in naturalism and artistic creation;on the other hand,they have differences on the emotional tendencies and harmony between man and nature.However,Babbitt＇s view on Taoism is the lack of depth,which reflected the fact that Western scholars＇ interpretation on Chinese culture tended to be an instrumental behavior.
