The impact of Puritan Ethics on the Enlightenment of American Business

Puritans moved to North American because of religious persecution. They also took their beliefs there. The aim of Puritan ethics is self - redemption through honoring God. So it is not simply a religious, but a way of life. Puritan ethics emphasizes individualism, efficient work and the pursuit of profits. This gradually became the spiritual driving force of American business and completed the enlightenment of American business. Puritan ethics laid a solid spitirual foundation for the formation and progress of American business. This paper tries to interpret the important role that Puritan ethics play in the formation process of business spirit, different from the original way of argumentation that ＂economic base determines the superstructure＂.
