This paper reviewed a large number of research literature on the effects of America＇s university rankings to give a deeper understanding of its purpose,role and impact.Studies have shown that America＇s university rankings influence the student＇s choice of colleges and universities,government funding decisions,and alumni donations,and these factors in turn have a directly impact to the development of colleges and universities.The econometric models in the paper can help one to presents a quantitative analytical method to show how institutions can gain competitive edge in the university rankings.
