| Abstract: | Tarski's semantic theory of truth is often taken as a correspondence theory. After distinguishing the general features of Tarskian truth definitions from the particular semantic features with respect to languages, and constructing several Tarski-style definitions of truth for different kinds of languages, it is revealed that Tarski took an instrumentalist stance toward semantics. Tarski's theory of truth is not a correspondence theory. |
