| Abstract: | new type of language,the Map Query Language(MQL) for the map database basedon a hierarchical relation model is proposed.It is an extension of the conventional standardlanguage SQL and involves four aspects,namely,(1)support of the hierarchical relation da-ta model;(2)operation of special data types in map management application;(3)support ofspecial operations on images in map management application,such as the close-up and wan-dering;(4)carrying out of special computations,such as those of the topologic relationshipbetween map objects,the size of an area and the periphery. The design strategies,functions,features and performance of MQL as well as user interface issues are discussed.MQL hasbeen successfully used in a Map Database Management System(MDB). |
