Minimal symmetric submani folds in compact Riemannian symmetric spaces |

| Abstract: | A necessary and sufficient condition for a symmetric submanifold to be minimal in its ambient compact Riemannian symmetric space is given. By this condition a complete classification of nonminimal symmetric submanifolds in compact symmetric spaces is obtained. |
