A REVIEW ON THE REINFORCING AND TOUGHENING MECHANISMS OF WHISKER REINFORCING CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES |

| Abstract: | The reinforcing and toughening mechanisms of whisker reinforcing ceramic matrix composites are reviewed in this paper. Recently it is pointed out that the reinforcing mechanisms of whisker are load transfer and matrix prestressing; the toughening mechanisms of whisker are crack deflection, whisker bridging and pull out. These mechanisms are dependent upon the characteristics of whisker/matrix interface. Finally, some problems necessary to be studied in this field are presented. |
