| Abstract: | By finding upper bounds on the two-codeword error probability a simple method for the evaluation of the maximum likelihood (ML) decoding performance in coded pulse position modulation (PPM) laser communication (Lasercom) system with direct detection is given for both shot-noise limited Poisson and thermal-noise limited avalanche photodetection (APD) receivers. |
