Complication,a special phenomena in the development of Chinese character,expresses the inner needs of Chinese character as an ideographic writing system.However,simplification has been stressed but complication seldom mention even totally ignored in teaching and studying Chinese character today,which resulted in an incomplete command of the teaching and development of Chinese character.The paper attempts to illustrate complication in the development of Chinese character and its cause,in the hope to achieving a deeper and comprehensive understanding of the nature and evolution of Chinese character.
