Analysis on the Images of Mother and the Concerned Water Images in the Carnivalized Ulysses

Ulysses, Jame Joyce＇ s masterpiece, is full of absurd words, grotesque images and extremely exaggerative actions, which has established a typical carnivalized atmosphere in the novel. In the carni- valized Ulysses, three typical images of mother are displayed： the dead mother May, the active mother Mrs. Purefoy living now and the future mother Molly. Meanwhile, in the novel, each mother image is ac- companied by a special water image： the sea for May, the drinking for Mrs. Purefoy and the urine for Molly. All of these display a paralyzed Dublin in Ulysses.
