| Abstract: | Active measurement is an important Internet measurement technique, however current active measurement tools are not well suited to this task, mostly because the protocols which they employ have not been designed for measurement of the modern Internet. The IP measurement protocol (IPMP) is presented to address the limitations. This paper presents several current active network measurement technique and the limitations first, and then describes IPMP packet formats and why it can address the limitations discussed, at last presents the implementation under FreeBSD operating system. |
