Cotton Spinning Wheel with Five Spindles in Ancient China

According to literature records,typical foot-powered multi-spindle cotton spinning wheel in ancient China is triple-spindle and there're also double-spindle,quadruple-spindle and five-spindle spinning wheels.However,many Chinese and foreign scholars don't recognize the existence of five-spindle spinning wheel and argue that such five-spindle spinning wheel recorded in ancient literature is only capable of the combination or twisting of silk and yarns.This paper queries the validity of the above-mentioned argument and proves the existence of five-spindle spinning wheel since Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty by adoption of literature and image materials.Besides,this paper also makes detailed exposition on its drawing mechanism.
