The Static Modeling of Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) Including Multi-control Modes and Operating Limits

This paper presented a modeling of the static synchronous series compensator(SSSC) with multi-control modes for power flow analysis.In this model,the impedance of the series coupling transformer and the line charging susceptance are all included.It is proved that the original structure and symmetry of the admittance matrix can still be kept,and thus the Jacobian matrix can keep the block-diagonal properties and a sparsity technique can be applied.Furthermore,the operating limits of SSSC can be systematically enforced,and the formulation of the Newton-Raphson algorithm with the limits enforcement has exactly the same structure as that of the Newton-Raphson algorithm without it.The numerical results based on the IEEE-57,IEEE-118,and IEEE-300 buses system were used to demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of the SSSC model.
