Application of digital tidal information to ECDIS

In order to reduce the time of sailing, economize ship fuel, raise ship navigation efficiency and en-sure safety in ship navigation, we should utilize the information on tidal stream sufficiently. This paper pre-sents a method to digitize the information on tidal stream, and gives the principle of implementing thismethod. We can acquire the information on tidal stream of designated sea area immediately and accuratelyby this method, so the navigation time of schedule routes can be simulated and the optimal departure timeand routes can be given, The effectiveness of this method is proved by simulating the time of ship sailing inthe special sea area. This method can be introduced to ECDIS as an additional function, to improve ECDISfunction, to perfect ECDIS function, and to make the service of ECDIS for ships better.
