AN INITIAL STUDY OF DETERMINING APPROPRIATE SCALE OF CITY DEVELOPMENT

In regards to the approaches for determing the most appropriate scale of city develop- ment, two problems should be considered. First, economic benefit, social benefit and benefit to environmental ecology shoud be well combined and well coordinated, i.e., a synthetic principle must be followed. Second, in evaluating the above mentioned three benefits, mot only a qualitative criterion but also a quantative index should be applied. According to the above mentioned two principles, ten different cities are selected and compared using twelve factors, and the vistas of these cities are proposed.
