Abstract:With the purpose of the future building of Sandu gulf as a great dimension of modernized port, the exceedingly favourable natural conditions are as follows: 1. Sandu Gulf is an extraordinarily typical drowned-vaUey where the deposition and erosion are not only in the state of balance but also the sediment continuously swept into the open sea is much greater than what is swept into the port. Correspondingly it obviously reveals that the port is respectively not only deeper and wider far more than anyother ports in our country, but also more deeper and wider than those of the world 4 largest sea ports (ie. Rotterdam, Singapore, New York and Yokohama). 2. Sandu Gulf is surrounded with consecutive hills and a series of shore-islands beyond the port mouth, so that it is well sheltered from prevailing wind and sea wave. In accordance with the above circumstances, it extremely facilitates any high tonnage rank of numerous vessels to anchor and navigate to and fro safely and freely at whatever time in the gulf all the year round. 3. Along the coast especially at the head area of the gulf, the sum of available plain is larger than that of Rotterdam (the world greatest port). In addition, it also has an abundance of fresh water to supply constantly and sufficiently all the year round in the gulf region.
Keywords:Sandu Gulf  natural harbour  typical drown-valley  balance of deposition and erosion
