Abstract:Changes in the activity of endogenous growth regulators in potatotuber and the effects of daylength and higher temperature on tuber form-ation and dormancy are studied.It is observed that the activity of bothpromoting and inhibiting substances varies with the development of thetuber.The relative activity of promoting substances decreases gradually,while that of inhibiting substances increases to be the reversal of theprocess which occur during dormancy resulting in breaking the tuber.The enviromental factors may effect on the growth regulators.A markeddecline in promotors and an incerease in inhibitors are observed undershortday conditions.Treatment plants with higher temperature may causea decline of inhibitors and an increase of promotors in the tuber.Resultssuggest that the effect of daylength and higher temperature on thegrowth and dormancy of potato tuber may be exerted by a change inthe relative activity of endogenous growth regulators.
