On Wang Meng's Ancient Literature Studies

This paper discusses the influence of Wang Meng's ancient literature studies on contemporary Chinese literary criticism and writing, and its significance from the aspects of his studies on Dream of Red Mansion, on Li Shangyin, and his inheritance and transcendance of excellent ancient literary traditions. Wang Meng's study on Dream of Red Mansion stresses its original nature and the endless "topic value" deriving from the original nature, while the broad and deep content of the work decides the variety of studying approaches. Wang Meng's study on Li Shangyin's poetry lies in his novel studying idea and approaches on some no-topic poems such as "Jin Se"; and Wang Meng also expatiates on the realistic significance of study on Li Shangyin.
