A novel supershort pulsed ion source |

| Abstract: | A new design of ion source is presented. Photoemission electron beam, with a supershort duration, was generated while a focused laser beam was directed onto a stainless steel plate. This electron beam, in conjunction with a pulsed delayable accelerating field, was used to ionize gas samples, ejected from a supersonic pulse nozzle in a time of flight mass spectrometer. Experimental results show that this technique can be used in TOF MS as an ideal soft ionizing point source. |
