“刚美”是张玉能先生近几年提出的一个美学范畴。本文对刚美历史渊源、审美特征及其与柔美的关系进行了详细的探讨；不但证明了它源远流长，特色鲜明；而且指出了它是张玉能先生为适应美学在新时代发展的要求，迎接新时期的挑战，对中国古典美学和西方美学已经取得的理论成果进行的归纳和总结，是对中西方美学理论的继承和发展；因此，刚美是一个既古老又年轻的美学范畴，它对丰富和发展我国美学理论具有重要意义。

Doughty Beauty:An Old and Young Aesthetic Category

Doughty Beauty is an aesthetic category that has been advanced by Mr. Zhang Yuneng these years. In the article, its historical origin, aesthetic characteristics and relation with Flexible Beauty are closely studied. Not only it is proved that Doughty Beauty has a long history and many sharp-cut characteristics, but also it is pointed out that Doughty Beauty is a conclusion derived by Mr. Zhang Yuneng from the theoretical results gained in Chinese classical aesthetics and western aesthetics for aesthetics to meet its needs and challenges in the new time, and that it is inheriting and development of the aesthetic theories of Chinese classical aesthetics and western aesthetics. So Doughty Beauty is an old and young aesthetic category. It has great significance to enrich and develop Chinese aesthetic theories.
