| Abstract: | The ground state energies of a shallow donor impurity near a sharp surface of a semi-infinite crystal are studied.A simple, reasonable trial function and the confocal elliptic coordinate system with foci at the hydrogenic donor impurity and its image point are used.The energy expression of the system as function of its distances from the surface are calculated with the variational method. |
