On the Significance of the Independent Retainer Images in Pre-Qin Literature

From cultural and literary point of view,this article analyzes the significance of the independent retainer image in pre-Qin literature.The retainer status is changing from loyalty to one master to independent choosing of master,from the social development perspective,which shows the drastic changes of the society have enormous impact on the relationship between master and retainer.From the literary point of view,the emergence of an independent type of retainer makes the image of retainer from single to multiple.Independent type retainer is a negative literary image,and those of their positive type are also increasingly perfected.The two types of retainer,in sharp contrast,are co-constructed and rich and varied literary pre-Qin retainer figures gallery.
