A Multi-perspective Investigation on the Principle of Order Iconicity

The principle of iconicity refers to similarity between a language form and the entity it represents.The similarity directly reflects the meaning,concepts,and experience structures imposed.This principle includes principle of order iconicity,principle of distance iconicity,principle of quantity iconicity,and principle of marker iconicity,etc.Based on the principle of order iconicity,this article gives both English and Chinese examples to show how the principle is manifested on the linguistic,pragmatic and discourse level respectively.In this way,the universal and objective existence of order iconicity principle can be demonstrated in linguistic signs.
