An Introduction to the Origins of European Thought

It is not enough to study the origins of European thought from the discourse of ancient Greek philosophers for studies of such a kind are just the branches and leaves,but not the roots and veins of the big traditional tree. To some extent,the real historical faces of the earliest Greeks,in which there were plentiful brutal factors incomprehensible to later civilized people,were shown in Homer＇s Epic. Knowledge about myths and legends is the materials for reconstructing the process of civilization,and is also a cognitive channel to connect the Stone Age and the civilized ages. The Lifestyles and ways of thinking revealed by Iliad and Odyssey are like a permanent monument of the historical memory,and also the earliest live materials of describing European life and thought.
