Exploration on Ashigao’s Translation Thought and Translation Ways

Buddhism was firstly introduced into China during the late of the Western Han Dynasty and the beginning of the Eastern Han Dynasty(approximately during the 1st century).Quantities of translation of sutras didn’t come about until the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty.Ashigao was considered as the first and important translator to translate sutras into Chinese.His translation was original and peculiar in terms of content and form,and made a great contribution to the expansion of Buddhism in that period.Through analysis of Ashigao’s background,Buddhist theory and Chinese translation,his translation ways,strategies and translation thought could be explored.
