| Abstract: | The E-R model of logical design for material management is discussed at some length. It is independent of the hierarchical model, network model and relational model as used in an objective system.In building the E-R model, designers concern only with the entity relationship and attributes. Any complex E-R model is composed of four basic E-R diagrams and nine steps are needed to establish a complete E-R model. The rules involved are the translation from an attribute into an entity and from an entity into an attribute of another entity as well as the elimination of redundancy, etc. According to the rules of translation, an E-R modl can be translated into a network data model and consequently into a practical one by optimization. |
