| Abstract: | Thematic progression is a very important part of the informativity of a text. In the mutual translation of Chinese and English, the understanding of the thematic progression patterns in both languages is very helpful to represent the information structure of the original text,and in this way a functional equivalence can be gained.In this paper the four thematic progression patterns and their translations in Chinese and English will be discussed. |
