人们在认识世界的进程中,一般总是根据自己熟悉的、具体的和有形的事物概念去认识和对待陌生的、抽象的和无形的事物概念.不同概念之间相互关联,经过长期的文化积淀,就形成了"联想链",因而可以说"联想链"是隐喻认知的产物.拥有不同文化的人们在选择联想喻体时存在差别,因而不同文化中的"联想链"也会有所不同.在翻译领域使用"联想链"这一术语,有益于将繁杂的文化现象系统化.探讨、分析、合理应用英汉"联想链",有助于做好英汉相关文化词的互译.

Association Chain and its Application in the Translation of the Related English and Chinese Cultural Words

In the process of knowing the world, people tend to understand abstract or strange concepts on the basis of their familiar or concrete concepts. After a long period of cultural fossilization, two forms of concepts form association chains, which can be said to be the product of metaphorical cognition. People in different cultures often choose different assocition vehicles, so association chains cannot be completely same in various cultures. Using the term of association chain in translation, we may systemize the related complex cultural phenomena. And it is helpful in doing translation between English and Chinese cultural words to probe into, analyze and reasonably apply association chains existing in the languages.
