Taking successful developing a subsystem of wages management for example, this paper introduces the application of VAX DATATRIEVE in practical FORTRAN programs. The major command statements in the eight functional blocks of the subsystem that call VAX-11 DATATRIEVE to execute the operations of storing data, reading data, modifying data, deleting data and so on are described. It also describes the statements added to prornpt the DATATRIEVE system messages in the course of program writing and debugging.
