| Abstract: | A new method of the production of metal-matrix composites (MMCs),namely, SHS-melting process (SM process) is introduced. SM technology based on self propagating high-temperature synthesis produces ceramic reinforcements in situ during themelting process. Because the ceramic reinforcements are formed in situ, they are not exposedto the environment, thus, contamination at the composite/particulate interface does not occur. In addition, the morphology of the ceramic reinforcements can be adjusted by means ofyaring the process parameters so that the microstructure of the composites is "reproducible"which results in high properties of them. |
