| Abstract: | A simple hardware arbitration method for a dual-master CPU board system using a shared bus is presented. Using this method, the system is enabled to arbitrate and assign shared bus quickly and reliably. It bears no relation to CPU type and no special software is needed. Bus competition due to shared dual-master CPU boards is avoided and each CPU board has the same priority to access to system bus. The arbitration principle is described in detail and computer timing is analyzed with an example. A real dual-master CPU board system using a shared bus is designed and put into operation. It can be used either for parallel processing to improve throughput capacity or in a redundant system to improve reliability. |
