Similarities and differences of progressive makers among Cantonese, Min and Hakka dialects

The progressive markers of Cantonese, Min and Hakka dialects have close relationship, they share the same pattern ＂adv ＋ v＂. The progressive markers of Cantonese dialect are more abundant than those in Min and Hakka dialects, in which ＂vb ＋ adv＂ can be used alone or appears as ＂adv ＋ v＂. The progressive makers of Hakka dialect in Mei County have two types of ＂adv ＋ v＂ and ＂vh ＋ adv＂, while the progressive maker of Chaozhou dialect is single, it is shown as the pattern ＂adv ＋ v＂. The research on the similarities and differences among them will be helpful to establish grammatical system of dialects and provide references for monographic study on dialects in south China.
