Critical Issues of GIS/RS Applications in Global Economy

Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are two arching technologies in global economy. Applications are no longer limited in scientific researches and government services. GIS are widely used in fields such as: market development, site selection, retail business, financial and banking industry, real estate industry, etc. RS has been applied in insurance business, risk management, precision agriculture, etc. All these applications are taken places under the backdrop of a global economy. Major global economy trends are identified in terms of supply chain management, Just-In-Time, lean manufacturing and significances of geospatial information. Several critical issues, namely: education issues, legal issues, policy and security issues and economic issues. Education issues are further explored in lights of historical development of high education together with some contemporary thinking derived from the principle of supply chain management.
