Abstract: | Ultra-fine grained and nanocrystalline materials are often harder, stronger and more wear-resistant than their coarse grained counterparts. Machining approach is a novel and low-cost technique to manufacture nanostructure metals and alloys in large volume. Machining which is a typical large strain processing can impose significantly large strain on chips in a sigle stage of deformation during the process of chip formation, while simultaneously is suitable to high strength metal and alloy to overcome the limits of severe plastic deformation methods. The pertinent aspects of the large strain deformation by machining, microstructure and mechanical properties of chips are illustrated in detail. At the same time, some solutions and prospect are brought forward on the basis of above introduce. |
