从翻译的标准和方法谈习语的翻译

严复提出的“信达雅”在翻译理论方面的地位和所起的作用是巨大的,严复自己没有说“信达雅”就是翻译的标准,但他比较全面、完整地强调了忠实原文的重要性。如今,人们认识到,准确是翻译的唯一标准,忠实是翻译的唯一原则。对翻译标准的争议其实最主要的就是对翻译方法的选择,由此产生了“直译”和“意译”之争。直译和意译均需讲究适度,把握分寸。无论直译还是意译,其标准只有一个,就是准确;翻译的原则也只有一条,就是忠实。由于地理、历史、宗教信仰、生活习俗等方面的差异,习语翻译便有相当的难度。根据翻译的标准和原则,习语翻译应运用恰当的翻译方法力求做到对原文信息转达的准确和忠实。
