Abstract:Four types of polyethylenes(HDPE,LDPE,LLDPE,and VLDPE)were irradiated with low energy electron beam in N_2 atmosphere.The results show that the molecular structure and physical morphology have great influ-ence on the gel points and the energy yields G(X)and G(S)for crosslinks and scissions respectively.The irradiation causes changes of unsaturation structure of the samples.The increase of trans-vinylene obeys the zero-order reaction kinetics within the dose range studied here(<26 Mrads).In the case of dose less than 14 Mrads,the decay of terminal vinyl can be treated with the first-order reaction kinetics;however,its decay behavior diverges from the kinetic curves with further increasing dose for all samples because of the chain seissions,which lead to the increase of the vinyl
