Abstract:With a distributed structure, a new system more reliable than the conventional one for overall substation automation is described. One of the most important problems is the relay protection while the relay protection of electrical equipment at the HV side is independent of other functions such as measurement in the new system. The communication net in the substations is also discussed and an Arcnet is briefly described. The typical design of a 110kV substation is given.
