Preparation of Acid Dyeable Polypropylene Fiber

Abstract:A series of basic copolyamides has been synthesized with adipic acid (AA), hexamcthylene diamine( HMDA) and diethylenetriamine(DETA). Intrinsic viscosity determination, thermal analysis and infrared spectrum analysis of the copolyamlde indicates that molecular weight, thermal stability reduce whereas alkalinity increase with the increasing fraction of DETA. Then acid dyeable polypropylene fibers are prepared by admixing polypropylene (PP) with those copolyamides prior to extrusion. Low concentration of the additive affects slightly on the crys-tallinity and the mechanical property of PP fiber. The modified PP fibers have a nice acidic dyeability.
