Intertextuality and Ch'ien Chung-shu's Literary Criticism:The Networks and the Chains Made of Texts

The common relations between different texts have been emphasized by the western theory of intertextuality. In fact, Ch'ien Chung-shu's works, loaded with references, should be regarded as "intertextual". However, in his literary criticism, the discourses are not simply put together, but form networks and chains to serve his purpose. To describe and analyze these networks and chains can help reveal the dialogic relationship between Ch'ien Chung-shu's literary criticism and western Intertextuality.
