Sheng Xuanhuai was a renowned but controversial key character of Westernization Movement Clique in Chinese modern history.He played a significant part in the development of Chinese modern industries aiming at encouraging the growth of capitalist businesses in economy as well as sticking up for the feudal rule of the Qing Dynasty in politics,which displayed a complicated interweaving of his class consciousness: capitalism and feudalism.This paper attempts to probe into Sheng Xuanhuai's thought of running modern enterprises,resisting foreign ideology and advocating compradors,which is expected to be quite beneficial to an in-depth understanding of the freakish evolution of capitalism in the society of Late Qing Dynasty.
