何心与《水浒传》编年

从故事编年的层面对《水浒传》进行研究，何心先生是第一人。何心先生这种做法不仅“很别致”，而且也很有意义：第一，有利于《水浒传》的传播；第二，可以为《水浒传》之成书研究提供有益的帮助；第三，为中国古代长篇小说的研究提供了一种可资借鉴的模式。然而何心先生之《水浒传编年》也存在明显的局限，主要表现为：第一，某些事情的发生时间明显存在错误；第二，事件遗漏现象比较严重；第三，对存在于《水浒传》中的时间错乱现象重视不够；第四，把七十一回以后之事置于《水浒传编年》之外，显得不完整。

Mr. He Xin and his Chronicle of the Water Margin

Mr. He Xin was the first one to study the Water Margin in terms of the chronicle. This is very special and significant： firstly it helps the Water Margin spread; secondly it gives some useful support to studying the writing time of the novel; thirdly it presents a model of studying ancient Chinese novels for reference. However, there were obvious limitations in his chronicle of the Water Margin： wrong time for some incidents; too many omissions ; not enough attention paid to time errors ; seeming incomplete when the things happened after Chapter 71 was not included in the chronicle.
