Architecture for an agent-based concurrent process engineering environment

Based on a multi-dimensional object oriented model, a three layer multi- agent system architecture has been proposed which contains a top management, middle technical and bottom utility layers. In both the management and technical layers, instance agents are proposed which have components, internal structure, status, history and multiple functions. Functional agents are abstracted from these instance agent functions, each supports multiple instance agents. Therefore, within this architecture the overall problem solving has been distributed into the coordination of many local tasks, which, together with data sharing, are based on the domain knowledge distribution.
