The Cross-Cultural Pragmatic Failure and English Teaching

Pragmatic failure is one of the key reasons in language learners' cross-cultural communication. It is found in the automatic use of cultural concepts and communicative models, arbitrary use of words and structures and misuse of values. This article has discussed pragmatic failure and its main reason, as well as how to overcome and raise student's pragmatic ability, to reduce pragmatic failure in cross-cultural communication and English teaching, to strengthen the understanding and the sensitivity to the culture of target languages, and to promote linguistic practice.
