| Abstract: | Summary Injection of a subconvulsive dose of strychnine (which blocked the inhibitory synapses) increases respiratory muscle activity evoked by stimulation of the sciatic nerve as well as by inhalation of hypercapnic gas mixture. Thus the inhibitory synapses prevent an excessive hyperventilation. |
