| Abstract: | Thomas Hardy spanned across two centuries in his life. Deep emotional ties with countryside made him full of strong affection for the traditional life. Calm rational spirits stimulated him to observe the social development represented by modern civilization and the battle between tradition and modernity. It was under this dual variation between sentiment and rationality that Hardy engaged in writing. |
