汉字性质研究的历史回顾

19世纪末以来汉字性质研究的历程可以分为三个阶段。第一阶段，着重强调汉字与拼音文字的不同，并未真正涉及汉字的性质；第二阶段，主要是围绕汉字的改革展开的，为汉字改革提供理论指导；第三阶段，从不同角度、不同层次全方位综合探讨汉字的性质。

A Historical Retrospection of the Research on the Properties of Chinese Characters

The research on the properties of Chinese characters has witnessed three developmental stages since the end of 19th century. In the first stage, the focus was placed on the difference between Chinese characters and Pinyin, not involving the properties of the characters. In the second stage, a stress was laid on the character reform and provided a theoretical guidance on the reform of Chinese characters. In the third stage, the properties of Chinese characters were investigated from various perspectives and on different levels.
