Yu Lihua's novel Between Leaving and Saying Goodbye spreads her three subjects of novel writing, that is, the conflict between the traditional agriculture and modern industrial and commercial civilization, expression of female consciousness and creation of the images of Confucian scholars, and overtakes them, that is, giving metaphysical reflections on them. Her writing backgrounds, i.e."history and tradition", come from Mainland of China and Taiwan, not from America where she lives.
