Abstract: | Despite theoretical advances in the realm of TEFL and rounds of nationwide education reform in China in the past two decades,the status quo of TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) in some senior high schools remains helpless.This article,by examining how utilitarianism in education shapes (spoils,to be more exact) English teaching and learning in a county senior high school in Anhui,an eastern province in China,and how it hinders implementation of quality education,appeals to teachers as individuals for personal efforts to help change the status quo in such schools,or at least to prevent it from worsening. |
