The first half of A Song of Unending Sorrow stresses the conflict of personal relations between Li Longji and Yang Yuhuan and state politics.The nature of this conflict is role conflict in the same person which is not the absolute conflict of good and evil,right and wrong.Role conflict in this poem renders the reader a dilemma of deducing the theme of the poem.The second half of the poem creates a tragic ending which alerts the reader to the theme tendency of the poem.Role conflict is inevitable for a person such as the conflict of the public and private,emotion and nationality.However,as a person in the society,he/she should value public interest above personal emotions.
