The seemingly simple meaning construction of nominal compounds turns out to be very complex indeed. While traditional grammar treats it as a compositional process, generative linguists and semantic feature theorists attempt to account for this phenomenon from different perspectives. However, none of them adequately addresses the problem. This paper hereby turns to a more explanatory conceptual blending theory in explaining the meaning construction of nominal compounds.
